Enrique Iglesias Recovering From Hand Surgery After Drone Accident
It seems that Enrique Iglesias’ hand injury, suffered during his Tijuana, Mexico, concert, was worse than expected. The 40-year-old singer had to undergo reconstructive hand surgery but is now in recovery mode.
Iglesias’ representatives told the Associated Press on Monday that the singer was undergoing the hand surgery that day. "Thank you to all for your concern and good wishes. Enrique is currently undergoing reconstructive hand surgery today," the statement read. "Enrique will resume his tour July 3rd in Mexico City. We appreciate all your wishes and prayers."
Iglesias’ team also took to Instagram on Tuesday to share updates about the singer, states E! News. "We wanted to give you a personal update about his condition. His recent surgery lasted longer than expected since the damage ended up being a bit worse than initially assessed. He suffered a fracture that needed to be corrected, in addition to the reconstructive surgery. He will be recovering during the next few weeks, but a full recovery is anticipated. - Team Enrique."
The Latin pop singer accidentally injured his right hand during his Tijuana concert, which was part of his "Sex and Love" tour, Rolling Stone reported Sunday. He grabbed a flying camera drone to give the audience a point-of-view shot, but his fingers slid into the rotors' path, resulting in the injury. Though he was semi-treated at the side of the stage and was advised to stop the show, Iglesias still performed for an additional 30 minutes with his right hand bandaged and bloody. He immediately flew to Los Angeles after the show to consult with a specialist.
After the accident occurred, fans immediately took to social media to share photos of Iglesias performing with his hand and shirt all bloodied up. Despite the injury, Iglesias performed “I Like It” and also smeared some of the blood on his white T-shirt in the shape of a heart.
